Fribourg, Germany, May 12th, 2008

We found Fribourg to be a beautiful cobble-stoned town, with great places to eat and spectacular architecture.

Waldau, Germany, May 2008

(Cue "The Sound of Music" score . . .)

Our "Gasthof " in Waldau (black forest). Originally built in the 1500's, then rebuilt after a fire in the 1800's. It has been passed down through the same family for generations. Great breakfast!

Up top Hohenzollern Castle, May 11th

Breaking for a snack; castle touring can work up an appetite.

A view from atop the castle

Hohenzollern Castle, May 11, 2008

This is a beautiful castle, even with the tour that was completely in German. Not bad for old Prussian digs . . .

Black Forest, May 11th, 2008

Hunk 'o German bread

We had to get a picture of this round bread that was easily twice the size of Abby's head. This picture doesn't do it justice, but one loaf could truly feed a small country.

Lake Tititsee, Germany, May 10th, 2008

We had a great time in the Black Forest while spending a long weekend in Germany. Don't be fooled by the look of this boat, the only way we moved in them was by peddling. A half an hour was all our legs could take!

Bundling up for a walk in beautiful Annecy.

Bravo!

Christmas in Rothenberg, Germany, December 2007

The German ornaments are some of our favorites; one can never have too many. Raymond (Rudy's brother) and his wife, Beate, and family live in Nuremberg and that also makes our Christmases in Germany extra special.

foggy Swiss Alps

The mountains atop the village of Leukerbad where we spent a week last October '07. The jagged mountains in silhouette are typical in this part of Switzerland.

Riiiiiiccoolaaaa!

Those are some big horns! This is in the village of St. Cergue, during the cow festival, September, 2007.

Grapes anyone?

Around Lake Geneva there are many vineyards that can be seen everywhere--you can't go for a walk without coming across one. Our temporary apartment was right next to a winery; we could SMELL the pressed grapes throughout the town at harvest time!
